ON-LINE PROGRAM: SERVICES
The
Masters Program On-line makes use of the many services provided
by Moodle, an open source
course management system that is currently used by more than 2,000
educational organizations around the world to deliver on-line
courses as well as to supplement traditional face-to-face courses.
This software enables the Masters Program to provide high-quality
learning situations:
Resources
- written study material provided in a variety of formats (pdf
documents, Power Point presentations, Mind Mapping, etc.), daily
audio recordings of teachings with the resident teacher, and weekly
videos of review classes with the teaching assistant
Forums
- these facilitate the exchange of information, ideas, and questions
between students and the teaching assistant
Chat
- permits participants to engage in a real-time discussion via
internet of the subject being studied
Glossary
- provides access to standard Masters Program terminology, definitions
from valid sources, and explanations of the terms by the teacher
and teaching assistants to facilitate understanding of the subject
Quiz
- on-line quizzes that make use of multiple-choice questions,
true-and-false, matching exercises, fill in the blanks, and short
essay questions that are to be used by students as study tools
(these will not be graded)
Surveys
- to determine what is and what is not working for students
Wikis
- to enable students to collectively author and create new study
material accessible to participants of both the residential and
on-line programs
News
- to provide regular updates regarding special events such as
teachings and pujas, changes of schedule, etc. and to enable on-line
students to be more actively involved in the life of the residential
student community
