MASTERS PROGRAM TEACHER TRANSITION PROGRAM
By the year 2002, having concluded the study of
the Ornament for Clear Realizations and Supplement
to the 'Middle Way,' many of the Masters Program students had
gained sufficient knowledge and experience to begin teaching in
the FPMT Dharma centers. In fact, several students had already been
invited to give talks or actual courses during the summer and winter
holidays in the centers in their home countries and had been much
appreciated for the depth and structure of their teachings.
In
order to give students the opportunity to improve their teaching
skills and at the same time make the FPMT centers more aware of
this valuable resource, the FPMT Education Department began working
together with the Masters Program Coordinator and a student representative
to link students with centers seeking teachers. The FPMT Education
Department also communicated to the centers that Masters Program
graduates would be available for teaching positions at the end of
the program. This project slowly gained momentum and some of the
students received more requests to teach than they could possibly
accept while still engaged in their studies. They were also requested
to accept positions as resident and visiting teachers and as teaching
assistants supporting a geshe in the FPMT centers at the end of
the program. In fact, three students accepted the position of teaching
assistant and two accepted the position of text translator (English
to Italian) for the Basic
Program at Lama Tzong Khapa Institute (January 2005 to June
2007). In this way the Masters Program would appear to have fulfilled
Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s vision reguarding the benefits of providing
an advanced study program.
