In October
1982, the First International Conference on
Universal Education was held at ILTK, due
to the hard work of American nun Ven. Connie
Miller. It was attended by 250 participants
from around the world. Fifteen speakers, experts
in various education methods, headed by His
Holiness the Dalai Lama, shared their experience
and ideas. Following this conference, the
Universal Education Association was incorporated
as a non-profit organization.
From 1984 until 1988, the annual summer camps
organized by UE in Italy for children, parents,
and educators were held at ILTK. Each one
revolved around a particular theme related
to dharma teachings and encouraged the development
of awareness with regard to mind, body, and
the environment. Since 1989, the camps have
been held in the mountains of Trentino in
northern Italy. |
