Lama Tzong Khapa Institute, which is today
one of the most prominent Tibetan Buddhist
centers in the West, was founded in 1977,
in Pomaia, Italy. The Institute was founded
by Lama Thubten Yeshe and his heart disciple,
Lama Zopa Rinpoche, as a place for the study
and practice of the teachings of the Buddha
as passed down in the Gelug tradition of the
great Tibetan master and yogi, Lama Tsong
Khapa (1357-1419). It is a member of the FPMT
(Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana
Tradition), of which Lama Zopa Rinpoche is
the spiritual director. Since its founding,
the Institute has been host to a number of
the greatest and most prominent lamas in the
Tibetan tradition, including His Holiness
the Dalai Lama, Ling Rinpoche, Lama Zopa Rinpoche,
and many others. It has also been home to
a number of in-depth study courses, including
the recently concluded 7-year Masters Program,
taught by resident teacher Geshe Jampa Gyatso,
and Discovering Buddhism, and is currently
hosting the 2-year residential Basic Program.
The Institute also hosts a number of courses
of various spiritual disciplines and interdisciplinary
seminars. Located in the scenic Tuscan countryside,
the Institute is an ideal place for those
wishing to make contact with or deepen their
connection with a spiritual path, especially
in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. |
