A GREAT FIRE NEWS

Dear friends

This is another update on the activities currently underway for the reconstruction of what was destroyed by the fire and for the new gompa.

While we wait for the insurance company to finish

FUNDRAISING EVENTS FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION THE WHAT WAS DESTROYED BY THE FIRE AND TO BUILD THE NEW GOMPA.

28 February – Rotary Club in Foggia – 12th Peace Prize.

Geshe Tenzin Tenphel, resident teacher at Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa, together with ILTK’s President,
Ven. Raffaello Longo, received at the Rotary Club in Foggia, the 12th Peace Prize awarded to the Buddhist community at ILTK and to all Tibetans. The prize, a sculpture by Silvano Pellegrini and a cash donation, in the words of Raimondo Ursitti, the club’s President, was awarded because “it’s a token of our admiration towards those who respond to violence with non-violence, to oppression with an invitation to uphold peace and tolerance”.

In his speech, ghesce Tenphel stated: “you are all aware of what problems Tibet is facing and how important it is to talk of peace. But talking is not enough. First of all we must bring peace within ourselves. We must work on our minds, become aware of our mistakes and face up to inner change. I am happy to see all those peace flags hanging from the balconies of your houses but what sense can it all have if there’s no peace within the family that hangs them?

We thank the President of the Rotary Club “U. Giordano” and all those who attended such as the representatives of the local Council and Administration as well as those schoolchildren who took part in the writing contest on Peace.

18 March 2009 – 4pm-7pm at the Istituto Italiano di Studi Filosofici in Via Monte di Dio 14, Napoli.

The Istituto Italiano di Studi Filosofici and the Associazione le TreGhinee/Nemesiache organised a debate with the theme “The Path of Dharma”.

Vincenzo Tallarico, a Junghian psychologist and one of the founders of the Mindfulness Project who for many years has lectured and held seminars at the ILTK, announced that he will devolve the income of the next three meetings of his course “Psychology and Buddhism” towards the reconstruction of the gompa. Thank you Vincenzo!

On March 24, 2009 the restaurant “India” located in via Gramsci 43/a Fiesole, hosted a fund-raising dinner featuring the cuisine of Northern India as well as a typical Tibetan dish – the momo. All funds raised have been devolved to the reconstruction of the gompa.

Before the start of the dinner ILTK’s President, Ven. Raffaello Longo, delivered a short speech on the current situation in Tibet and future projects at ILTK. Furthermore our Tibetan doctor, Lobsang Samten, will gave a brief introduction on the basics of Tibetan Traditional Medicine.

All 120 available seats were taken and many more requests for reservations regretfully had to be turned down.

We thank you wholeheartedly for all you’ve done so far and we renew our plea for support.
